Arena Rebuilt 0.9.9E is available for Windows and Linux. This update tackles another batch of player reports from 0.9.9d, with most of the work going into maps and the menus you use throughout the game.
Automap
- Corrected the map colors and how settlement and interior maps are drawn, using the original game's map behavior. Dungeon exploration still reveals areas as you visit them.
- The map now opens fully zoomed out to its default view every time.
- The scroll wheel and +/- buttons zoom toward your cursor instead of always heading for the middle.
- Increased the zoom range, while stopping zoom-out at the default size.
- Hold the left mouse button to drag the map. Right-click to add or select a note; controller note entry is still available.
- Removed repeated map rebuilding while the menu is open, which was making it slow and laggy.
- Reduced overlapping labels and corrected the handling of selected locations when closing the map.
Inns and conversations
- Restored the original inn choices for drinks, rooms, sneaking, and rumors, including the different menu shown after renting a room.
- Drinks and room rental now have their own menus, with the original room types and a confirmation before trying to sneak into a room.
- Inn rumors now go through the proper conversation and quest interactions.
- Fixed a confirmation input carrying over into the next merchant or service screen and accidentally accepting another action.
- Corrected citizen direction text so it agrees with the world's compass directions.
- Long arrival messages and building notices now wrap and split into pages instead of being cut off.
Spellmaker and interface
- Stopped controller input from moving the menu cursor when mouse and keyboard controls are selected.
- Restored the Spellmaker parchment layout and made its effect controls easier to read and use.
- Added working +/- controls and clearer confirmation handling without changing the normal spell purchase and payment rules.
- Added a Status button to the modern HUD, along with a rebindable shortcut.
- Fixed loading overriding the selected modern HUD style.
- Restored the original city, town, village, and dungeon icons on the world map. Search, highlighting, and quest-location discovery remain in place.
World and presentation
- City fog now appears only while snow is falling or in Morrowind. Morrowind uses darker gray fog; wilderness fog is unchanged.
- Jumping over water no longer puts you into swimming just because your body passes above a water cell.
- Improved clearance checks when climbing out of water onto a ledge.
- Ordinary menus no longer replace the current location's music, and stale queued music changes are discarded.
- Enabled the original priest and blacksmith animation sequences.
- Improved loot variation between characters and encounters without rerolling items already stored in a save.
Both downloads include these changes and retain the quest and tree-collision fixes from 0.9.9d. This is still a beta; please keep reporting problems with the location and steps that caused them.
